Following law school, Mr. Lappan clerked for Justice Fred L. Banks, Jr., Supreme Court of Mississippi. He was then employed as a staff attorney for the Volunteer Lawyers’ Resource Center, in Tallahassee, Florida, and as an assistant public defender in the Monroe County (New York) Office of the Public Defender. After six years of private practice, Mr. Lappan returned to Mississippi for a state-wide practice as an attorney with the Office of Capital Defense Counsel in Jackson, Mississippi. By appointment from the Mississippi Supreme Court, he served on the Uniform Criminal Rules Study Committee and on the Mississippi Model Jury Instructions Committee. Currently an assistant federal defender in the Fort Myers Division of the Middle District of Florida, Mr. Lappan has published in academic and professional law journals. He has also presented at numerous CLE seminars throughout the United States.
