Marie Donnelly joined the Capital Habeas Unit as an Assistant Federal Defender in October of 2019. A graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, Ms. Donnelly has been dedicated to the representation of persons sentenced to death since 1993. She was an attorney with the Public Defender of Indiana, Capital Litigation Division (1993-1997), the Virginia Capital Representation Resource Center (1998-2001), and a supervisor at the Office of the State Appellate Defender in Chicago (2001-2008). In addition to appellate and post-conviction work in various state courts, Marie has represented capital habeas corpus petitioners in the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh Circuits. She has presented on topics related to death penalty defense, appellate advocacy and federal habeas corpus practice at seminars in Indiana, Illinois, Mississippi and Virginia, and at the Renmin University of China Law School in Beijing.
